My last journal entry included my thoughts at the beginning of this year. Now, here I am getting ready for my last semester of high school. When everyone told me time flies, they were not lying. Seven semesters down, one to go and it is so nerve racking. Since my last journal entry, I have gotten used to my classes and am even struggling in some. This time I know more about how it feels to be a senior and it is everything but easy.
We are in November and the semester ends towards the end of January. This means that I need to really work hard in the classes that are more difficult for me. Economics is one of the classes that I find to be harder, as well as advanced art. These are the only two classes that are holding me back from being on pace in seven out of seven classes. I definitely need to work harder in these two classes because I need to be done before the end of semester. I am determined and I will get it done.
Other things that I have been busy doing are applications for colleges and all of the work that they require. I did not expect this process to be so long and hard. I have submitted all of my applications and have already been admitted to Fresno State. I am impatiently waiting for other responses.
So far this year, I fortunately have had no problems with my senior project. Since I started a lot of the requirements last year, I lucked out. Although it has been a lot of work, I make sure to get it all done and turned in on time. I am enjoying my senior project because it is mostly all about me so it is simple and interesting. As for my senior year in general, I am enjoying every second of it. Even though it does get tough at times, especially with the two classes I am struggling in, I still find myself being optimistic about accomplishing everything in the end because I know I can do it.
Some of the things I am doing to better prepare myself for post-graduation life are things like slowly becoming more independent. An example would be my car. I put my own gas and anything my car needs, I provide it. Doing this is preparing me to do things on my own without the help of my parents. Although I will need some financial help from my parents when I go off to college, I still want to be familiar with what it is like to be without my parents. Now that the semester is coming to an end, I do feel supported by my AVID teacher and Mr. Gutierrez. Mrs. Torres and Mr. G have especially helped me in everything this year. I have applied to all of the colleges of my dreams because of them. They have pushed me to try harder in everything that I do which is why I am so thankful for them. I am definitely supported by my teachers here at school.
